First Hour Matters
Skin-to-skin and an early attempt at latch within the first hour after birth supports milk supply and bonding.
What a Good Latch Looks Like
Wide mouth, lips flanged out, more areola visible above than below, rhythmic suck-swallow pattern, no pinching pain (some tenderness for first 10 seconds is normal).
Get Help Early
An IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant) is the gold standard. Many insurance plans cover visits at no cost under the ACA.
